I am a great believer in self-education, self improvement, and learning how to do things, but when it comes to bathroom design, I think for most people the cards are stacked against them. Having a bathroom, and using it for years is a good start, but only one part of the bathroom design process.
It is good fun to have-a-go and explore ideas, but in the end, I think it is better to let an experienced bathroom designer have a free hand, hopefully with a good brief and your help. If you just expect your sketch ideas to be reproduced, then you have tied a designers hands behind his back. It is easy to disagree over individual items and have a good understanding of where you want things to go in your bathroom, but that is where a designer will normally start and then continue.
It is normally the three dimensional look, and spacial awareness that catches out the unwarey with a slaved over plan. The space required for baths and showers and getting in and out of a bathroom is always important and often under-calculated. Add modern bathroom design to the mix, and you have sculptural use of colour added to the problem!!
I am sorry to say that virtually none of the bathroom designs presented to me by customers could not be improved upon. I do not change other peoples bathroom layouts just to put my mark on the design ,it is the simple fact that there are many ways that I have learnt to gain space or solve design problems. There are also alterations to waste pipes and soil pipes I use that can help to streamline or enhance a design.

I usually have the clients agreement to proceed with my design when weighing up the reasons for these changes. So the point is that anyone can produce a design with my free planning tool and I am happy for you to do so, but if you are looking to proceed with purchasing a kitchen then it essential to get professional advise at some stage if the design is important to you. Where that comes from is your decision.
